A Letter from a Missed Grandmother Abroad

My grandmother sent me a letter a few months ago. She was telling me about the different things that have happened to their family when they decided to migrate to the US last year. She wrote: Dearest Lydia, I have great news to tell you. Your cousin, Jack, has found a very nice job here in the US. He got in a company called Glitch International. He told me that his work has something to do with monthly seo plans. I really don’t know what they are but one thing is for sure, its all about computers. Your other cousin, Ron, is vying for spot as the valedictorian. Your Uncle Ted has found a good job as a mechanic. Your Aunt Mildred and I stay at home. We sometimes go shopping but we can’t seem stand the busy atmosphere of the mall. So, the both of us choose to stay at home most of the times. This coming December, we are planning to go to Disneyland for a short vacation. Hope to hear from you soon. Love, Grandma.

All You Need to Know About the Pharmacy Technician Degree

Licensed pharmacists fill up prescriptions of recommended medicine for patients/customers in a pharmacy. The pharmacy technician assists the pharmacists by helping him or her in filling up prescriptions and making them ready for the patients or customers. Pharmacy technicians have finished a degree which can either be an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree. Whichever degree it is, a pharmacy technician degree explains the basics of being a pharmacy technician. Among the courses offered are medical terminology and pharmaceutical terminology, technical communications, inventory management, procedure in dispensing medications, pharmaceutics and more. The bachelor’s degree will be more comprehensive than the associate’s degree because it requires more number of hours and credits.

When the degree is completed, the graduate is expected to possess the necessary skills that qualify him or her to closely work with pharmacists in various medical facilities such as clinics and hospitals. Among the other duties and responsibilities of a pharmacy technician are waiting on patients, handling paperwork and forms, and stocking pharmacy shelves.

Can a Career Without an HRM Degree Succeed?

I know some of the top General Managers (GM) in the hospitality industry who don’t have formal, academic qualifications in hotel resort management. Each one of them started off at their local Marriott or Holiday Inn bussing tables in the restaurant, bell hopping bags and cleaning rooms and making beds. Some now manage the finest five star international resort hotels in the world.

One thing they all have done since getting onto the management career path is to gain tertiary qualifications in either business, commerce, accounting or management. Not HRM degrees as such, but related fields and very often to post-graduate (or Masters) level.

The bottom line is that when you start to compete with other hospitality professionals for highly paid managerial positions simply having worked in the industry for a couple of decades and knowing the hotel inside out is not enough. Hospitality is a multi-billion dollar business and managing such huge amounts of money requires qualified professionals. Get the qualifications, even if they are not HRM specific.
